Riester Environmental Statement

Commitment to Achieving Net Zero

At Riester, part of the Halma group, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact in line with global sustainability goals. This includes aligning with the UN Climate Change Conference’s Paris Agreement (2015) and Halma’s overarching sustainability strategy, ensuring we contribute to achieving net-zero emissions.

We are focused on reducing our Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions across our operations, including buildings, supply chain, and manufacturing processes, to make a positive environmental impac

Milestones and Decarbonisation Plan

As part of Halma plc, Riester shares in the group's ambitious sustainability goals, with significant milestones set for emissions reductions:

  • Net Zero for Scope 1 & 2 emissions by 2040 with a 42% reduction by 2030 (2020 baseline).
  • Net Zero for Scope 1, 2 & 3 emissions by 2050.

In support of Halma’s group strategy, we will actively work toward these targets, ensuring consistent progress toward global sustainability.

Carbon Reduction Strategy

Riester's strategy is designed to achieve our long-term sustainability goals and includes the following targets:

  • Net Zero by 2040 for Scope 1 & 2 emissions
  • Net Zero by 2050 for Scope 1, 2 & 3 emissions

This approach involves reducing emissions across all operations, increasing energy efficiency, and collaborating with stakeholders to improve our sustainability efforts. We are working to implement measurable carbon reduction initiatives while refining our overall emissions strategy.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Our emissions baseline is based on data from the financial year 2020 (April 1, 2019 – March 31, 2020). For accurate emissions measurement, we use the GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard, covering Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions from owned and operated manufacturing sites and offices.

Baseline emissions data (FY 2020):

  • Scope 1 (direct emissions from owned or controlled sources): 110 tCO2e
  • Scope 2 (indirect emissions from purchased electricity): 251 tCO2e
  • Scope 3 (other indirect emissions, including purchased goods and services, business travel, and waste): 5,113 tCO2e (excluding certain Scope 3 categories)

These emissions form the reference point from which we will measure future reductions and refine our carbon reduction strategies.

Emissions Reduction Targets

To drive progress toward our sustainability goals, we have set the following ambitious emissions reduction targets:

  • 25% annual emissions reduction through 2030.
  • 80% renewable electricity by 2025.
  • 4% increase in energy productivity annually.

We will continue to work closely with Halma to refine these targets, explore opportunities for greater emissions reductions, and establish interim milestones for Scope 3 emissions as part of our strategy to achieve Net Zero by 2050.

Carbon Reduction Projects

To support these targets, Riester has implemented several carbon reduction initiatives and is planning further actions:

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives:

  • Transitioning to LED lighting at our headquarters and factory.
  • Sourcing everyday items from responsible suppliers and using recyclable materials (e.g., water bottles, lanyards, branded clothing).
  • Eliminating plastic containers and cutlery in canteens.
  • Increasing the number of recycling bins to reduce landfill waste.

Planned Carbon Reduction Initiatives:

  • Developing a comprehensive plan for achieving Net Zero with clear GHG reduction targets.
  • Integrating sustainability into procurement and supplier engagement processes.
  • Exploring the use of solar panels on our properties.
  • Encouraging carpooling, bike-to-work schemes, and public transport options for employees to reduce commuting emissions.
  • Exploring telemedicine and remote medical devices to reduce travel emissions in healthcare settings.

We remain committed to embedding environmental sustainability into every part of our operations, from procurement to manufacturing, and continuing to engage with stakeholders at every level to ensure measurable reductions in emissions.
