Anatomy of an Otoscope

Written by Admin | Nov 28, 2024 1:24:36 PM

Otoscopes are designed to aid in the examination of the ear, nose and throat (ENT). Riester offers a wide range of otoscopes for every budget and every clinical need. Our baseline models can be powered by alkaline batteries and have 3x magnification and our premium options allow for rechargeable batteries and up to 5x magnification showing twice the field of view of a standard otoscope. Below is a breakdown of the anatomy of each of our tiers of instruments with what makes these features important.

e-scope® pocket otoscope details
  1. 3.7 V LED, 2.5 V or vacuum and illumination
  2. Fibre optics
  3. 3x magnification pivoting lens
  4. Reusable or disposable ear specula
  5. Pneumatic test connection
  6. On/Off switch
  7. Battery compartment and ABS synthetic material casing.
  1. 3.7 V LED illumination – Riester’s LED bulbs offer a lifetime of 50,000 hours
  2. Fiber optics – Allows for optimal lighting with reduction of shadows to show colors in the ear as they really are
  3. 3x magnification pivoting lens – Pivoting lens allows for easy insertion of tools when needed
  4. Reusable or disposable ear specula – Metal nose cone for specula to withstand daily usage of specula application and removal
  5. Pneumatic test connection – All otoscope heads have the ability to do pneumatic tests, for our e-scopes you need to purchase the connector port (10961) and the insufflator bulb (10960).
  6. On/Off switch
Battery compartment and ABS synthetic material casing – Runs on AA alkaline batteries (easy to replace and cost effective). Lightweight and comfortable to carry in a pocket during rounds.

ri-scope® L otoscope details
  1. Reusable or disposable ear specula
  2. 3x magnification pivoting lens
  3. Push button for ear speculum ejection (L3 only)
  4. OP lens
  5. Bayonet fitting to quickly switch instrument heads
  6. On/Off switch
  7. Battery compartment, black chrome-plated metal handles.
  8. Insufflation port for pneumatic otoscopy
  1. Reusable or disposable ear specula – Metal nose cone for specula to withstand daily usage of specula application and removal
  2. 3x magnification pivoting lens – Pivoting lens allows for easy insertion of tools when needed
  3. Push button for ear speculum ejection (L3 only) – Specula ejection removes specula from the nose of the device at the touch of a button, reducing cross contamination
  4. Operating lens – Optional purchase for use with L2 otoscope, comes standard with L3 otoscope (allows for 1x magnification in addition to the 3x magnification of the pivoting lens)
  5. Bayonet fitting to quickly switch instrument heads – All of our heads work with all of our handles allowing end users the ability to easily switch between heads and a bayonet fitting knowing they’re locked in place
  6. On/Off switch – On/off collar allows for brightening or dimming of illumination to fit the clinician’s needs
  7. Battery compartment, black chrome-plated metal handles – Instruments can run on rechargeable lithium-ion batteries or alkaline batteries (C cell).
  8. Insufflation port for pneumatic otoscopy - All otoscope heads have the ability to do pneumatic tests, for our ri-scope line you only need to purchase the insufflator bulb (10960).
